Our divisions

Food To Go

The Food to Go division produces a range of products including sandwiches, pizza, sushi, hot cross buns and Christmas puddings

The division is focused on own label products but also includes the Matthew Walker brand. There are four sites in the division:

  • Solway Foods at Manton Wood, Nottinghamshire
  • The Pizza Factory in Nottingham
  • Gunstones Bakery near Sheffield

Solway Food, Manton Wood

Manton Wood Enterprise Park, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, S80 2RS

Solway Foods in Manton Wood, Nottinghamshire, was opened in 1999 to produce sandwiches and sushi.

Manton Wood supplies over 106 million sandwiches every year for cutomers.

Production is met using a combination of automated and hand-fill lines including the Lieder machine line which is the largest automated sandwich line in Europe.

The Pizza Factory

Gateside Road, Nottingham, NG2 1LT

The Pizza Factory in Nottingham comprises two sites: bakery known as Finch Close and topping known as Gateside. Finch Close is the home of the largest wood fired oven which uses volcanic lava stones to stone bake pizzas. This achieves ultra high temperatures to produce exceptional bases. The ball and pin, hot press and woodfired oven process is exclusive to Pizza Factory and offers a premium unique selling point.On average 1.2 million pizzas are created every week at the Pizza Factory made up of 80 different products.

Pizza Factory has three key customers: Tesco, Aldi and M&S. The largest customer is Tesco and the range for Tesco includes: Finest, takeaway, deep, thin crust and kids’ pizzas.

Pizza Factory also produces two own brand pizzas: Napoli & Prima Fresco.

Gunstones Bakery

Stubley Lane, Dronfield, Derbyshire, S18 1PF

The Gunstones family started this business in 1862 and went on to open their first bakery in Sheffield in 1925. In 1950, they built a factory at the current site in Dronfield.  

There is a chilled factory and a bakery at this site. The chilled factory manufactures sandwiches, rolls and sushi. The bakery manufactures a variety of bread rolls, hot cross buns, iced buns and garlic bread.
