MP gives thumbs up to poultry factory
Scunthorpe MP Nic Dakin paid a flying visit to 2 Sisters' Scunthorpe poultry processing site.
Nic was given a full tour of the site, based at Foxhills industrial Estate, to see for himself the factory which employs 1,200 of his constituents and produces 2 million chickens for British shoppers every week.
Nic said: "It was great to have a tour today going into whatever areas I asked to. I enjoyed meeting some of the local people that work hard on the production line to put food on our dinner plates. I was very impressed by the level of training they had been given and the pride they had in their work. I'm amazed at the levels of production here; it's a slick, fast operation. The site has long been a key part of this community, providing many jobs and boosting the local economy and from what I already knew and saw for myself today, they're doing a very good job of it.
"It was also great to hear some of the stories about how local people have joined the company and worked their way up to enjoy a successful career at 2 Sisters. This is an excellent example of what a good, local employer can provide."
2 Sisters has an active programme of open engagement with key stakeholders such as MPs and regularly invites them to visit its factories.
Dan Whillick, 2 Sisters' general manager at the factory said: "Chicken is now Britain's favourite meat and we take pride in what we do and the products we provide to supermarkets. We produce high-quality British chicken, which are reared to the highest welfare standards. We're keen to give local stakeholders, like Nic, an insight into just how we do that. I don't think most people understand the scale of what we do or how professional and organised we have to be to be to get it right. We were delighted to show Nic round."
